The course is designed for Housing Officers. It is normally available as part of the Relate for Families Programme, which is run with Local Authorities in order to support individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness due to relationship problems.
The focus of this course is for Housing Officers to develop skills in dealing with clients in an interview situation. These interviews can be made shorter and more effective if appropriate listening and interview management skills are used with clients.
This course can be run over 5 X 3 hour sessions.

Introduction to transitional analysis - understanding what motivates people.
Managing strong feelings - yours and another's.
How to structure an interview.
Appropriate assertiveness.
Skills for dealing with emotional clients and helping people deal with bad news.
Building rapport with your client.
Dealing with internal and external distractions.
Using effective questions to get information.
