I'm divorcing/separating and I need help

Case Study Divorcing

A divorce or separation can be a very difficult and painful process even if it is what you want and can often affect more that just the couple.

Where children are involved, they are often left feeling confused and divided in their loyalties. They feel hurt and sometimes blame themselves for the break-up in their parents’ relationship. A commonly asked question is “What do we say to the children?” A counsellor can help you to find the best way to deal with this and other related concerns that you may have. You may be separating or divorcing, but you are still their parents and therefore will need to be able to communicate with each other in order to do the best by your children.

Counselling can help in addressing the difficult issues when a relationship breaks up. Talking calmly and honestly to each other in an impartial environment often minimises the harsh and hurtful words that are said in anger. A counsellor will help to support you as well as helping you to look at what went wrong in order to prevent the breakdown of future relationships.

If you are uncertain about whether you want to stay together, counselling can help you explore your feelings and make a decision. If you believe that the best way forward is to separate, we can help you do this in the least painful and most amicable way. Mediation helps to sort out the practicalities without the arguments and minimise your solicitor’s costs.
