Bridging to Change: building safe relationships

Domestic violence and abuse is a significant national problem. As a national organisation, Relate is aware of the gaps in provision of prevention services across the country. With funding from the Department for Children, Schools and Families, we have produced a substantial report, reviewing three pilot projects.

These initiatives were instigated by local Relate Centres working with others in a co-ordinated community response to an identified unmet need. The projects provide programmes for men who use violence and abuse in their intimate relationships and associated services for women who are their partners or ex-partners. In one of the projects they are also providing direct services for children.

The review was produced in conjunction with the University of East London, together with a handbook providing good practice guidance for those considering establishing similar services.
