The leader of the Conservative Party, David Cameron, will make a keynote speech on the importance of supporting couple relationships when he delivers the Annual Relate Institute Lecture on 9th June. The event celebrates the work of Relate during its 70th Anniversary year.
Claire Tyler, Chief Executive of Relate said:
"We are delighted that David Cameron will be delivering the second lecture in our high profile programme. It is encouraging that the Conservative Party has recognized the importance of relationship support in sustaining stable families. We welcome the research his party has conducted into family cohesion and we look forward to hearing David Cameron's views on this most crucial aspect of policy.'
The lecture promises to stimulate discussion on the best way to help vulnerable families and spark debate around the institution of marriage. The Relate Institute Lecture series aims to give prominent public figures the chance to talk about families, their place in society and policy, and how they can be supported.
In a new Conservative Green paper published earlier this week, David Cameron calls for a stronger role for the voluntary sector in the delivery of public services to tackle the most pressing social issues of today, chief among them, family breakdown.
The Relate Institute, a groundbreaking partnership between the voluntary sector and a Further Education provider, Doncaster College, is a national training centre for relationship studies. It offers foundation level training through to Masters Degree equipping 350 students to work with couples, families, and young people every year. Each course provides a pathway to accreditation with a professional body.
In September 2008, Relate is celebrating 70 years of promoting strong relationships.
