MAY 10 / Children, young people and families conference: a joined up approach

On Friday 7 May, Relate held its annual Children, young people and families conference in Birmingham. The event was a great success, with over 80 people attending, from experienced counsellors to young people who have benefited from counselling.

The programme included talks on the emotional development of young children and the results of counselling in schools, as well as several fascinating workshops, including sessions on diversity, using sand trays in working with children and working with young people who have been exposed to domestic violence or abuse.

The event was a welcome opportunity for people to talk and share ideas with others who are working with children, young people and families. We were very pleased to have a group of young people at the event, who were able to give us a unique insight into what makes counselling work for them, and how to help young people who may be difficult to reach.
