'Make your relationship the best it can be'
In the September 2003 edition of Cosmopolitan magazine a couple tested Reveal to help them discover 'whether they should stay together forever, if they need to work at aspects of their relationship to make their love last'.
Here's what they said about it…
'What happened?
Lindsey says: "This was tricky as the questions were abstract.. For example I had to pick a personality trait that most suited me, and I wondered how this would help my relationship."
Andrew says: "When I answered a question asking how I see myself and how I think others see me, I realised how different these are. If I'm moody after a bad day, I just want to be left alone. But Lindsey will think I'm pushing her away, so I need to be aware of how my behaviour affects her."
Result:
"Relate's analysis was very accurate" says Lindsey. "They worked out what sort of people we are - even down to the small details."
Lindsey's verdict: "This test was great for making us see not only how we're similar, but how we're different. We've decided to be more understanding of each other's foibles. For example, I'm going to make more effort to be tidy, as I now know just how important it is to Andrew."
Andrew's verdict: "I've never found talking about my feelings easy. But this test pushed me to be more open and I've realised how much it affects Lindsey when I don't tell her what's going through my mind."
Virginia Mallin's (counsellor with the Foundation of Psychotherapy and Counselling) verdict: The Relate test is very thorough and probably the one I would recommend the most. It was great at helping Andrew and Lindsey address niggling issues they'd ignored.
