Sexually compulsive behaviour is a term that describes any sexual behaviour that feels ‘out of control’

What is sexually compulsive behaviour?

Sexually compulsive behaviour is a term that describes any sexual behaviour that feels ‘out of control’. It’s not the behaviour itself that defines it as an addiction but rather the dependency on it to numb out negative emotions and difficult experiences. As with all addictions, most people with sexually compulsive behaviour will have tried to stop or limit their behaviour on many occasions – but in spite of continuing harmful consequences to self and others, they can’t reliably stay stopped.

How to get started

Call us or Contact us to register.

Once you have registered with our Admin Team you will be offered an appointment with a therapist but this is not a counselling session. It is an opportunity for the therapist to briefly discuss your problem and gather further information from you to ensure that any suggested treatment meets your needs. This appointment lasts up to an hour and if, at the end of the session, you and the therapist agree ongoing therapy will be helpful the next steps will be explained.

When you start Sexually Compulsive Behaviour counselling

If Sexually Compulsive Behaviour counselling is considered appropriate, you will start to see your therapist on a weekly basis. Our therapists, who have undertaken specialist training to work with Sexually Compulsive Behaviour, offer a safe and confidential space to discuss your issues. They can offer techniques, strategic interventions, and useful ways to bring about positive change, working with you to help you move forward.

How much will it cost?

The initial assessment process costs £75 per session, if ongoing counselling is agreed, each weekly session will cost £75. Funding and bursary information is available on our how much do we charge page

Check-in Service

Check out our new Check-in service

Sometimes it helps to know that once you have completed your counselling you can come back and talk to your counsellor again. That's where our new Check-In service will help. You can contact us between 1 and 6 months after you have completed your counselling and have up to 3 one-off 50 minute sessions with one of our counsellors. You might need to remind yourself of important conversations you had; or refresh your memory about strategies you learnt; or revitalize an aspect of your relationship that needs attention.
