Relate Sussex is made up of two centres; Relate Brighton, Hove, Eastbourne, Worthing & Districts and Relate North & South West Sussex. Read how each Centre began here.
Relate Brighton, Hove, Eastbourne, Worthing & Districts
Relate Brighton Hove Eastbourne Worthing & Districts started life as the Brighton and Hove Branch of the Marriage Guidance Council in September 1945, operating from a Women’s Voluntary Service room in Brighton.
Over the years we have expanded, becoming Relate in the late 1980s, merging with Relate West Sussex Marriage Guidance (Worthing and District Marriage Guidance Council) in 1998 and taking over services in Eastbourne, Bexhill on Sea and Hastings from Relate South East Sussex in September 2007. We were renamed Relate Brighton, Hove, Eastbourne, Worthing & Districts in 2008.
We now have over 25 counsellors in the local Centres of Brighton and Worthing and in Lewes, Haywards Heath, and Eastbourne providing Relationship Counselling, Family Counselling, Sex Therapy, and Mediation services.
We are proud to be in our 70th year of serving communities across East Sussex and parts of West Sussex.
Relate North & South West Sussex
North Sussex Marriage Guidance Council was formally launched in March 1962, having been in operation with five trained counsellors in Crawley, since October 1960.
In February 1988 The Marriage Guidance Council changed its name to Relate. Over the years we expanded our services to East Grinstead and Horsham and in 1998 we merged with Chichester and were renamed Relate North & South West Sussex.
We now have 16 practitioners working across Crawley, Horsham, Chichester and East Grinstead, providing Relationship Counselling, Family Counselling, Children and Young People’s counselling, Sex Therapy, and Mediation services.
Relate Brighton, Hove, Eastbourne, Worthing & Districts and Relate North & South West Sussex are both members of the national charity Relate, which has a national network of Centres. They are also members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
