Communicating with a partner can be difficult, but it can be especially confusing and problematic for people who are Autistic. We're here to help you find solutions and build better relationships.

What is the Service?

At Relate Cambridgeshire we understand how complex relationships are and how difficult it can be communicating with a partner. This can be especially difficult for people who are Autistic who experience differences in social communication and interaction, which can impact their relationships with others. The counsellors who deliver this service have received additional awareness and skills training that enables them to work effectively with clients who are Autistic.

How to get started

Call us or Contact us to register.
Initially all our clients will have at least 3 sessions as part of an assessment process. This will help us to understand the difficulties you are experiencing so that we can make sure we are the right agency to support you longer term. We will see you as a couple and then you will each have an individual session with a counsellor. This way we are able to get a full picture of your situation.

When you start your counselling sessions

Once you start counselling it will involve a series of regular weekly, 50 minute counselling sessions - anything between six and up to a maximum of 15 sessions, depending on the issues you are experiencing.

When will this counselling service help?

All relationships encounter challenges from time to time and we know that relationships, where one or both partners are Autistic, can have added difficulties. So, whether you have a diagnosis or not our team of specialist relationship counsellors are here to support you through the process.

There will be Limited National Lottery Funding for the first few couple's who apply.

For ongoing sessions, our funding and bursary information is found on our how much do we charge page

Check-in Service

Check out our new Check-in service

Sometimes it helps to know that once you have completed your counselling you can come back and talk to your counsellor again. That's where our new Check-In service will help. You can contact us between 1 and 6 months after you have completed your counselling and have up to 3 one-off 50 minute sessions with your counsellor. You might need to remind yourself of important conversations you had; or refresh your memory about strategies you learnt; or revitalize an aspect of your relationship that needs attention.
