Relationship help

Lots of people have an idea of what relationship counselling is and think that you only need counselling when things get really bad. But we're here whenever you need us, no matter what situation you face in your relationship.

Counselling for everyone

It doesn't matter if you’re on your own, married, living together, single, gay, bi/pansexual, straight or transgender - we’re here to help you, however you identify.

At Relate, we have experience in counselling people from different backgrounds, including LGBT individuals and couples, so you can rest assured you'll find a counsellor to meet your needs.

Free counselling session

We understand reaching out for relationship help can be a daunting first step. You may have apprehension about counselling or are worried about talking to a counsellor.  You may simply not know what to expect from a counselling session. Our 30 minutes free counselling service looks to alleviate these concerns and aims to put you at ease with the counselling process.

Our unique free counselling session allows you to initially air your anxieties in a safe and confidential telephone conversation with one of our highly trained counsellors. No need to register, we simply ask for a name and telephone number. It's then completely up to you whether you wish to register with us and go on to book further counselling sessions, with no obligation.

Sessions are available to anyone over the age of 18 and living in Nottinghamshire. To book your session, please email support@relate-nottingham.org.uk.

What to expect from your free counselling session

Once you've contacted us, you'll receive a choice of appointment times available. Choose which best suits you and your circumstances; a quiet time in a calm environment is best.  One of our qualified relationship counsellors will then call you at the agreed time on the telephone number you specify beforehand.

Our free counselling sessions are designed to be solution-focused, so tend to be fast-paced, as the counsellor helps you to explore your current situation and the resources available to you for immediate help. Sometimes, the counsellor may recommend reading materials or signpost you to further guidance and relationship advice. They'll also give you information on how to register with us if you wish to have further counselling sessions, but with no requirement to do so. Your comfort and providing you with help and support is our main priority.
