Finance and other trustees: Dorset and South Wiltshire

Whilst we are specifically seeking a Financial Trustee, with experience in dealing with financial matters, all applications will be considered to become a Trustee.

Who are Relate Dorset and South Wiltshire?

Our vision is a future in which healthy relationships form the heart of a thriving society.  Relate Dorset and South Wiltshire is a member of the Relate Federation and provides counselling and personal development services to residents in Dorset, South Wiltshire and South Somerset, encouraging and cherishing the family relationship that is so often central to people’s lives. The different types of support we offer aim to strengthen those relationships that are most vulnerable and strained whether people are staying together or separating.

By becoming a trustee you can help create a better future for others by helping us in our mission to develop and support healthy relationships.

What does a Trustee do?

At its simplest, the role of the Trustee Board is to receive assets from donors, safeguard them and apply them to the charitable purposes of Relate Dorset and South Wiltshire, working closely with the Centre Manager. Trustees must always act in the best interests of Relate Dorset and South Wiltshire, exercising the same standard of duty of care that a prudent person would apply if looking after the affairs of someone for whom they have responsibility. The Trustee Board must act as a group and not as individuals.

The Board meets approximately every 6 weeks.  This has been virtually during the COVID pandemic and going forward this may well continue with occasional face to face meetings at our main Centre in Poundbury, Dorchester. Additionally, Trustees are expected to attend the AGM and any additional meetings required, such as budget planning meetings for the Financial Trustee.

Can I be a Trustee?

Whilst we are specifically seeking a Financial Trustee, with experience of dealing with financial matters, all applications will be considered to become a Trustee as we are committed to having equality, diversity and inclusion at the centre of everything that we do and we see having a diverse Board as an important part of this.  We welcome applications from everyone, and would, especially welcome applicants who are from Black, Asian or other minority ethnic groups, people with a disability, members of the LGBTQ+ community and younger people.
