Join Relate for an engaging, reflective online CPD workshop for counsellors, psychotherapists, supervisors and relationship practitioners.
Working with couples and dyads from different racial and cultural backgrounds calls for thoughtful attention to the ways race, culture, identity, belonging, family systems and lived experience can shape a relationship. Experiences of racism, migration, intergenerational history, social narratives and differing cultural expectations may enter the therapy room in both subtle and profound ways.
Professor Divine Charura and Dr Fenia Christodoulidi explore how to work with these dynamics confidently, ethically and with cultural responsiveness. Drawing on contemporary research, clinical practice and relational dialogue, the workshop considers how race, power, privilege, attachment, identity and intersectionality can emerge between partners, and within the therapeutic relationship itself.
This is a space to deepen reflection on your own assumptions, cultural positioning and use of self, while developing practical approaches for facilitating conversations that may feel difficult, avoided or emotionally charged.
